WalletHub: Texas fourth most hard-working state

​​​​WASHINGTON (WalletHub) – Texas is the fourth most hard-working state in the country, according to a WalletHub study.

The Lone Star State ranks third in direct work factors and 30th in indirect work factors.

Direct work factors include average workweek hours, employment rate, share of households with no working adults, share of workers with unused vacation, share of engaged workers, and idle youth rate. Texas has the fourth-highest average workweek hours.​​

Indirect work factors are average commute time, share of workers with multiple jobs, annual volunteer hours per resident, and average leisure time spent daily. 

The top three hardest-working states are North Dakota, Alaska, and Wyoming.​

Earlier this year, WalletHub named Irving, Corpus Christi, Austin, and Plano among the nation's hardest-working cities.

TAMU approves $60.3 for Futures Command complex at RELLIS

​​​BRYAN (Texas A&M University System) – The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents has approved $60.3 million for two facilities at the George H.W. Bush Combat Development Complex​ (BCDC) on the university’s RELLIS Campus. 

Regents appropriated $22.5 million for ​a hypersonic and directed energy testing range called BAM, which stands for Ballistic, Aero-Optics, and Materials. It will be the largest enclosed testing range of its kind in the U.S., spanning one kilometer lengthwise and two meters in diameter. 

Construction will begin in February and wrap up in October 2022.

The remaining $37.8 million is set aside for a next-generation vehicle test track called Innovation Proving Ground. Construction will start in May and be complete in a year. 

The BCDC is being built as part of the Texas A&M System and Austin-based U.S. Army Futures Command. The RELLIS Campus is at the junction of State Highways 21 and 47.​

Shelter-in-place restrictions that were put into place in March 2020 had an almost immediate impact on housing markets throughout Texas, particularly in the state's major urban areas. Homebuilders buy 94 acres from Lewisville ISD

​​​LEWISVILLE (D Magazine) – Arcadia Realty and David Weekley Homes have acquired four land parcels totaling 94.33 acres from the Lewisville Independent School District (LISD). 

The developers are planning four residential subdivisions on the land. They are:
  • The Reserve at Chapel Hill on 23.47 acres at 2601 Harlington Dr. in Highland Village. David Weekley will build 73 homes.
  • Kensington Place on 28.49 acres at 2667 Warmington Dr. in Carrollton. It will include 96 homes by Arcadia.
  • Camey Place on 17.71 acres at ​5729 Memorial Dr. in The Colony. Arcadia will build 81 single-family homes.
  • Parker Place on 24.66 acres at the northeast corner of Windhaven Pkwy. and Parker Rd. in Lewisville. Arcadia will build 130 homes.

Whisper Valley moves into second phase

​​​​​​MANOR (Austin Business Journal) – Builders are starting on phase two of Whisper Valley​, a 2,602-acre, eco-friendly master-planned community near SH 130 and FM 973. 

Once complete, the community will have 5,000 homes and 2,500 apartments along with stores, restaurants, office buildings, parks, community gardens, and schools. 

Home prices will range from the low-$230,000s to mid-$400,000s.

The first phase includes 237 homes. The second will add 267 homes. 

Construction will be complete in first quarter 2021.

Hixon delivers 141K-sf office building

​​​SAN ANTONIO (San Antonio Business Journal) – Hixon Properties Inc. and the Cavender family have completed The Soto, a 140,600-sf mass timber office building at the corner of 8th and Broadway​ Streets. 

The project is the first phase of Hixon’s 8.5-acre mixed-use ​development. The second phase will be an entertainment area with an open courtyard and food and beverage concepts.

Lake Flato Architects and BOKA Powell LLC were the designers. Byrne Construction was the general contractor. ​​​

Auctane signs 105K-sf lease in The Grove

​​​​​AUSTIN (Compass Communications) – Auctane LLC will become The Grove at Shoal Creek's first office tenant.

The company will occupy 105,385 sf at 4301 Bull Creek Rd. ​​

Endeavor Real Estate Group brokered the lease.

The Grove is a 76-acre mixed-use project by ARG Bull Creek Ltd., a joint venture between MileStone​ Community Builders and Castletop Capital. ​

Parker-Hannifin takes 145K sf in Mesquite 

​​MESQUITE (D Magazine) – Parker-Hannifin Corporation has leased 144,750 sf at the Peachtree Distribution Center at 510 Peachtree Rd. 

Built in 2001, the 396,750-sf, Class A building is on 24.89 acres at 510 Peachtree Rd. 

Stream Realty Partners represented the landlord, LIT Finance II. 

Cushman & Wakefield represented the tenant.

​​​NEW BOSTON (Connect Media) – Riverbend Water Resources District has chosen TexAmericas Center ​​as the site of its proposed regional water treatment plant.

The facility will replace an existing one on New Boston Rd. in Texarkana.
