CROSS ROADS, DENTON COUNTY - A $12.6 million, 186,000-sf Walmart Supercenter is under construction at the northeast corner of US Hwy. 380 and FM 424. Approximately 300 employees will be hired for the new location when it opens in fall 2013, according to Daniel Morales, a Walmart spokesman.

Town officials said a Walmart is estimated to generate $1.5 million to $2 million in sales tax per year for the town. The store will include a pharmacy, a garden center and a grocery section, Cross Roads Mayor Steve Smith said.

The Walmart is the start of a retail development to be called The Village at Cross Roads. The new development so far is set to include two restaurants — Fuzzy’s Taco Shop and Whataburger. The Whataburger is expected to open in August 2013.

A recent traffic count by the Texas Department of Transportation showed that more than 29,000 vehicles travel on US 380 and more than 11,000 on US Hwy. 377 through Cross Roads each day.

A CVS Pharmacy opened at 11101 US 380 a month ago.
