SUGAR LAND - Sugar Land is home to some of the fastest-growing master-planned communities in the U.S. and as the population continues to grow, so does the medical community that serves it.

Memorial Hermann Health System, the tenth largest employer in Sugar Land with 450 employees has broken ground on the first phase of its $93 million expansion project in Sugar Land.

Phase one includes expanding the emergency center at Memorial Hermann Sugar Land Hospital and is expected to be completed this fall.

Phase two, which will begin early next year, includes a 100,000-sf medical office building and a six-story, 120,000-sf patient tower. The tower will increase the hospital's bed count to 141.

Meanwhile, Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital, the fourth largest employer in Sugar Land with 1,700 employees, has a $131 million expansion underway.

Plans include a new six-story patient tower, which will increase the hospital’s bed count to 339. The tower will break ground this summer and is expected to open in first quarter 2016.
