COLLEGE STATION – College Station-Bryan's economy is "doing great," Real Estate Center Chief Economist Dr. Jim Gaines said at the local chamber of commerce's annual Economic Outlook Conference last week.

“Our economy is still solid and strong and stable," he said.

According to Center data, the metro added about 2,700 jobs from November 2018 through November 2019, an increase of 2.3 percent. Unemployment hit a low of 2.7 percent.

Bryan's population increased from 76,201 in 2010 to the current 90,404. The estimated population for College Station increased 3.5 percent from 2010 to 122,738.

Overall, Gaines expects another decade of stability and growth for the area.

At the state level, Gaines expects Texas will gain congressional seats and electoral votes after the upcoming census, a result of population growth relative to the rest of the country.

In addition, Texas has experienced employment growth of over 23 percent in the past decade. Unemployment hit 3.4 percent.
