CHANNELVIEW – LyondellBasell has broken ground on what will be the largest propylene oxide (PO) and tertiary butyl alcohol (TBA) plant in the world.
The $2.4 billion, 140-acre plant will be built at the company's Channelview Complex. Once operational in 2021, it will produce one billion pounds of PO and 2.2 billion pounds of TBA annually.
An associated 34-acre ethers unit, which will convert TBA to oxyfuels, will be built at the company's Bayport Complex in Pasadena.
The project will create over 2,200 construction jobs and 160 permanent positions.
