LONGVIEW – City Council designated the 65-year-old Petroleum Building as Longview’s sixth local historical landmark in May 2018.
The designation is expected to bring municipal permit fee waivers and cost savings for Alton Plaza LLP Foundation, which plans to convert the former parking garage and office building into a 48-unit apartment building.
Construction of Alton Plaza is expected to start mid to late 2018.
The building first opened in 1953 as a parking garage, and commercial offices were added three years later.
Saigebrook Development of Austin owns the Petroleum Building.
