​​The University of Houston Seal.HOUSTON – The University of Houston Board (UH) of Regents approved establishing a medical school focused on primary care in underserved communities. 

UH plans partner with the HCA Gulf Coast Division to bring 103 first-year resident positions to the area by 2020, with a total of 309 by 2024. 

By 2027, UH anticipates the College of Medicine to have 130 faculty and staff and 450 students. 

Initially, the school will be housed on two floors inside the Health and Biomedical Sciences Building II, a 300,000-sf facility. 

It will cost an estimated $13.1 million to build out the two floors.

A new medical facility for the school is estimated to cost $80 million, per the study. ​
