Rendering of Third and Shoal in downtown AustinAUSTIN – Facebook Inc. is poised to massively expand its presence in downtown Austin, with another office inside of a gleaming skyscraper.

The social media behemoth plans to lease more than 230,000 sf inside Third+Shoal, the 29-story tower being built at 208 Nueces St.

That's in addition to its 120,000 sf inside the nearby tower known as 300 West Sixth, which it renovated at significant cost.

About 700 employees work there.

The new space could handle more than 1,000 additional employees.

Facebook aims to lease ten floors of the high-rise and also has "the right of first offer" to buy the entire 345,000-sf building.

It's the biggest lease of the year, although another internet giant just moved into a huge space high above downtown.

Google Inc. in early September 2017 unveiled its growing regional hub inside the 500 West 2nd skyscraper—a lease that totals 300,000 sf.
