The expansion also expects to have a far-reaching impact on the growth of the Alamo City's multibillion-dollar health care and bioscience industry. The new multi-story structure, the most-expensive single project to date for UTSA, will provide new teaching laboratories that will replace facilities dating back to the opening of the university in 1969. One area that could get a boost from the historic investment in the 153,000-sf science and engineering building is UTSA's work in the area of post-traumatic stress disorder. UTSA officials said work on the new center is expected to begin in December and the project is scheduled to be completed by May 2020.
