CUERO, DeWITT COUNTY – The new state‐of‐the‐art convenience store truck stop, The Texan, is expected to open in late February 2017.

This will be the fifth Texan in the chain and the largest with 87,000 sf.

The Cuero store located at a busy intersection on 101 Heaton St., will be able to seat about 70 people inside and 15 people outside.

The small town convenience store will hire approximately 30 people to work at the store and will include gas pumps as well as diesel for 18‐wheelers and trucks.

Cuero Development Corporation gave the owners, Brian and Brandon Dlugosch, a $100,000 enterprise grant for the $4.5 million project.

Close to one in five employed in the Cuero area are "Diners and Miners"—residents that work in mining, oil and gas extraction, or quarrying industries.

In addition to mining, construction and agriculture are common industries for employment in the area.
