The airline and the Houston Airport System broke ground on the new United Technical Operations Center at IAH.
The $162 million project is expected to be complete in late 2018 and create 200 jobs, according to a press release. The 200,000-sf project adds hangar capacity for maintaining wide-body aircraft, a new warehouse distribution center, technical services and administrative offices.
The new center is part of United's larger update project at its Houston hub, as the airline is undergoing a multimillion-dollar overhaul of its terminals at IAH. Those plans include a redesign of Terminal B South, Terminal C and Terminal E; adding 8,000 community iPads; and new restaurants from well-known Houston chefs, such as Chris Shepherd of Underbelly and Roland Laurenzo of El Tiempo Cantina. | Houston Business Journal
