KATY - This year, hotel construction is adding almost $100 million in capital investment to the Katy area, said Lance LaCour, CEO of the Katy Area Economic Development Council.

Four Points by Sheraton, Holiday Inn Hotel, LaQuinta Inn and a yet-to be-determined operator for the new convention center hotel are just a few of the hotels that are being developed in the area.

LaCour says there are as many as ten hotels in various stages of development throughout the city.

Because of the number of businesses in the area, weekday occupancy rates for the existing hotels are high and there is a demand for more.

The growth is fueled by a variety of factors including Typhoon Texas, which has 1.3 miles of slides, a 25,000-sf wave pool and a winding lazy river.

It is the largest privately financed waterpark built in North America in the past ten years.
