ODESSA - The Odessa City Council voted to annex roughly 280 acres of industrial land in the southeast portion of the city on Jan. 1, 2016.

The area considered for annexation comes from Industrial District One and properties on the fringes of the district that represent about half of the targeted land. The total area is home to about 50 properties, most of which are branches of companies based elsewhere.

The land is between East Murphy St. and East I-20 — a triangular-shaped section bordered to the west by South Meadow Ave. It is divided into two areas.

One section is more than 145 acres located north of East Murphy St. between South Meadow Ave. and South Pagewood Ave. The other area is more than 132 acres located south of East Murphy St. between South Meadow Ave. and South Pagewood Ave.

Many of the properties belonged to industrial districts that already allowed access to city utilities and other services.
