SAN ANGELO - The first newly constructed Homes For Texas Heroes house has been completed. It is located at 727 W. Ave. Z.

According to guidelines, a Texas Hero includes: police officers, teachers, correctional officers, fire fighters, emergency medical specialists and veterans.

The program is offered by the Texas State Affordable Housing Corporation (TSAHC).

According to the TSAHC website, "These professionals have dedicated their lives to the welfare of Texas families, and they should be able to buy a home in the communities they have worked so hard to protect."

Qualified buyers receive up to 5 percent down payment, a closing cost assistance grant and a mortgage credit certificate that can be worth as much as $2,000 per year.

Most homes are located in the four City of San Angelo identified low-income neighborhoods which include Blackshear, Reagan, Rio Vista and Fort Concho.
