Sales of single-family homes jumped 12 percent from June 2014, reaching 10,575, nearly 1,100 more than in May, according to data from the Real Estate Center. The strengthening housing market has benefited from continued job growth and low interest rates.

The median sales price also rose in June to $220,000, up 12 percent from last year. In May, the median price was up 14 percent from May 2014, hitting a record $215,000.

At this rate, home sales for this year could pass last year's record, when over 90,000 homes were sold.

Homes were on the market an average of only 39 days last month, a 13 percent drop from 2014. Sales were pending on more than 8,700 homes, up 14 percent last month.
