DALLAS (AXIOMetrics Inc.) – Houston, Dallas and Austin rank in the top ten cities for multifamily permitting, according to AXIOMetrics' monthly multifamily report.

Total residential permits in the country jumped 11.8 percent in May from April. The 557,000 multifamily units permitted from June 2014 to May 2015 represented a 26 percent increase from April's annual rate and a 53.9 percent jump from May 2014. May's annual rate was the highest since June 2008.

Houston ranked second in the nation for the 12-month multifamily units permitted in May 2015 with 23,340 units, representing a 21 percent increase over last year. Dallas was fourth with 14,218 units, a 19 percent decrease. Austin ranked eighth with 9,135 units, an 8 percent increase.

Other cities in the top ten were New York (44,333 units), Los Angeles (14,379 units), Seattle (13,981 units), Washington, D.C. (9,738 units), Atlanta (9,262 units), Miami (8,054 units) and Denver (7,840 units).
