The project will add 1.2 million sf to the factory's existing nearly 4.4 million sf across 250 acres. The facility will also be outfitted with new equipment, machinery and tools as well as training for 4,100 employees.
GM will reconfigure the plant with new paint and body shops and an assembly area.
For the project, GM received the second-largest incentives package in the city's history, worth $30 million to be paid over ten years.
Construction will begin this summer and span three years.
