McKINNEY - Cornerstone Christian Academy has finished the conversion of the three-story, 200,000-sf former City Hospital into a kindergarten through twelfth-grade school.

The red brick building, located at 808 S. College St., was built in the 1920s and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Cornerstone purchased the building for $1.4 million and had a renovation budget of $120,000.

Opened in 2003 with about 40 students, Cornerstone Christian Academy has previously leased spaces from churches, but had to move each time for a bigger location to accommodate its growing student body.

Administrators are expecting 200 students this year.
