SAN ANTONIO – After a quiet few years in real estate, the local market appears to be on the upswing. There have been 8 percent more existing home sales year to date through July.

The median price has also jumped 5.7 percent, to $159,800, compared with the same time period last year, according to the San Antonio Board of Realtors.

A midyear report from the housing research firm Metrostudy named San Antonio the fourth-busiest new-home building market in the U.S., with 7,222 home starts in the past four quarters.

In the past year, the median price of a new home has jumped from $200,000 to $209,000, according to Metrostudy.
