July contracts for construction climb in North Texas

NORTH TEXAS – Nonresidential contracts for future construction, which includes commercial, manufacturing and school buildings, totaled $431.9 million in July 2012 in the 12-county North Texas area, according to McGraw-Hill Construction. They totaled $206 million in July 2011.
Future contracts in the residential category rose 16 percent to $510.2 million in July, from $440.6 million a year ago.
Residential buildings include single-family houses, duplexes and apartments.
In Texas, future nonresidential contracts totaled $1 billion in July, up 8 percent from July 2011. Residential contracts statewide were up 18 percent, to $1.7 billion from $1.4 billion in July 2011.
