CORPUS CHRISTI - The 5 percent growth in construction employment in Corpus Christi Metropolitan Statistical Area ranks the Coastal Bend region 62nd out of more than 330 metro areas nationwide, according to Associated General Contractors of America.

There were about 1,100 more construction jobs in the Aransas, Nueces and San Patricio counties in July 2012 than in July 2011, according to the Texas Workforce Commission.

The growth rate tied with other Texas metro areas of College Station-Bryan, Laredo, Longview, Lubbock, McAllen-Edinburg-Mission, Tyler and Victoria, the contractor group’s records show.

The Fort Worth-Arlington area’s construction industry fared the best in Texas with 11 percent job growth compared with 2011. The Houston and Dallas metro areas had the lowest growth of 2 percent each.

Construction employment grew in 123 markets and declined in 165 metro areas in July.
