MIDLAND - When the new patient tower at Midland Memorial Hospital opens this December, it will include $23 million in additions to the original design and still will remain under the $177.6 million budget. Currently the project is under budget by $2 million.
Originally the project was to encompass 280,000 sf of new construction and 100,000 sf of renovations. The plans included a seven-story tower, a three-level parking garage and closing off the streets at Garfield St. and Michigan Ave. to make the hospital a health care campus.
The board decided to expand that design and added two more floors to the tower to accommodate the orthopedic and physical therapy departments and have an empty floor for future expansion.
Move-in date is scheduled for December 19.
