MIDLAND - Insignia Hospitality Group was given approval by the Planning & Zoning Commission for a zone change on north Crump St., just west of Rankin Hwy. The Holiday Inn Express will be 66 feet high and contain 90 rooms and 99 parking spaces.

A Hilton Garden Inn will open near Scharbauer Sports Complex, as will a TownePlace Suites, SpringHill Suites and an addition to the Sleep Inn & Suites.

A Comfort Inn also is planned for I-20 and a zone change is in process for land near Midland International Airport that would allow for the addition of a hotel, according to Reporter Telegram records.

In June, the most recent receipts reported, Midland's hotels had $6,664,931 in taxable receipts, up from the $4,583,302 reported in 2011, according to the Texas Comptroller's Office.
