HOUSTON - Strong job growth and a relatively low cost of living helped make Houston a top ten city for families relocating from out of state this summer, according to a study by United Van Lines, which tracks domestic moving trends during the busiest time of the year.

The study looked at moves within the United States during the peak moving season — between May 1 and August 31 — when more than 30 percent of household moves take place.

Overall, Houston saw 17.4 percent more inbound moves during that time than in the same period last year.

Below is the ranking of top U.S. cities for inbound moves:

1. Washington, D.C.
2. Chicago
3. Atlanta
4. Phoenix
5. Dallas
6. Houston
7. Seattle
8. Charlotte, N.C.
9. Los Angeles
10. Denver
