DALLAS-FORT WORTH - The recent run-up in local home foreclosure filings appears to have peaked. For the last four months, home foreclosure postings have been higher in the DFW area as lenders sought to catch up with problem loans.

But foreclosure filings for September 2012 are down 22 percent from a year ago, according to data from Foreclosure Listing Service. This year, 3,724 residential properties were set for foreclosure, compared with 4,786 a year ago.

The record high for a September in this foreclosure cycle was set in 2010 with 5,904 postings.

For the first nine months of 2012, foreclosure postings in the four-county area are down 10 percent from the same period in 2011. So far this year, 38,311 DFW foreclosure filings have been recorded, the lowest level for this nine-month period since 2008.

Home foreclosure filings in North Texas fell 12 percent in 2011 to the lowest level in three years.
