GALVESTON - The Disney Magic will set sail on its first voyage from Galveston September 22, 2012. Galveston was one of three new ports Disney Cruise Line added for 2012.

In August, Disney Cruise Lines agreed to a minimum of 20 cruises departing from Galveston each year and to sail from the island for at least two years. The deal is guaranteed to create a minimum of $2.4 million in gross revenue for the Port of Galveston.

Last year, the Port of Galveston experienced a 5.5 percent increase in passenger embarkations. The island welcomed an estimated 655,000 passengers and crew visits, which is 3 percent of all passenger and crew visits in the United States.

These visits are estimated to have produced $45.2 million in passenger and crew onshore spending

Texas ranked as the fourth largest U.S. cruise market last year, and Galveston is the state’s only major cruise port.
