CARROLLTON - Rudy’s Tortillas Corp. has signed a lease for a 248,000-sf office and tortilla plant at 2115 Belt Line Rd., an almost ten-fold increase from the company’s operations of roughly 25,000 sf a decade ago. Its current Dallas facility is 104,000 sf.

The company plans to spend $14 million on the construction and equipment to upgrade the building to a tortilla plant. Construction is slated to start October 2012 and is scheduled for completion early 2013.

The new space will double the company’s operations and allow it to hire 150 more people, bringing its total workforce to 500.

With the new facility, the Dallas-grown tortilla company will relocate outside the city limits for the first time in 67 years. The 67-year-old family business sends 15 million tortillas out into the world every day.

Rudy’s Tortillas sells its tortillas and recipes to customers including Brinker International, On the Border Mexican Grill & Cantina, Abuelo’s Mexican Restaurants, Chuy’s Holdings Inc. and Uncle Julio’s Corp.
