EL PASO COUNTY – Construction on the Tornillo bridge is rapidly advancing on the American side, with work yet to be started on the Mexican side.

The $133 million international border bridge is to replace the Fabens-Caseta bridge.

The port-of-entry will consist of a six-lane commercial and non-commercial toll bridge. A border-crossing station will be built on 117 acres of the U.S. side — the largest such facility in the nation.

Construction of the Mexican side of the bridge was estimated at $26.7 million.

The project progress includes:

  • Construction of the bridge is 45 percent complete.
  • Federal port of entry station is estimated to be 40 percent complete.
  • Phase one of the Manuel Aguilera Roadway is 90 percent complete.
