Rooftops rising in Temple
TEMPLE – Single-family home permits climbed 120 percent in August and 76 percent in July compared to 2011, according to the City of Temple.
Ninety-two permits were filed during the two-month period, up from 46 in 2011.
Some 395 new home permits were filed through August, up from 356 during the same 11 months in 2011 but down from 418 in 2010, when federal tax credits spurred home sales temporarily.
The buzz of activity, boosted by strong showings in December, January and May, has the city on track for at least its second best year for home construction since 2008.
The greatest share of recent permitting activity in Temple has been by national builders DR Horton, Centex and KB Home in the southern and western parts of the city.
