HOUSTON – Houston-area employers created 6,900 new construction jobs between August 2011 and August 2012, according to the Texas Workforce Commission. That reflects a year-over-year job growth rate of 3.5 percent and stronger-than-expected gains in construction.

Employers added a total of 89,500 new jobs over the past 12 months.

The Houston economy has been adding jobs at a year-over-year rate that has been hovering between 3.2 percent and 3.7 percent since the beginning of the year.
