Walmart buys land, plans Supercenter in west Bryan
BRYAN – Walmart has purchased 21 acres to build a 150,000-sf super Walmart, according to developer Crossfulton Investments.
The development will sit on land that used to be home to the Texas Hall of Fame. The dance hall closed in December after 33 years.
Walmart is scheduled to open in either fourth quarter 2013 or 1Q 2014. It will be the second Walmart in Bryan and the third in the Bryan-College Station area.
The site will include 17 building pads and a fuel center is planned in the Walmart parking lot. The development will surround the Exxon station currently located at the intersection.
The Bryan City Council did not advance any cash or give a tax abatement to Walmart, however there are long-term performance-based tax incentives, depending on how much sales tax revenue the store generates. The city also agreed to spend up to $250,000 to install a stoplight at Villa Maria Rd. and Jaguar Dr. to serve traffic to and from the retailer.
It is unknown when construction will begin, but NewsTalk Texas will have the latest when shovels hit the ground.
