Unemployment down across the Coastal Bend
CORPUS CHRISTI – The Corpus Christi metro area’s unemployment rate dropped to 6.5 percent in August, Texas Workforce Commission figures show. The figure is down compared to July’s rate of 7 percent and August 2011’s rate of 8.1 percent rate.
The civilian labor force — or the number of people working or actively seeking work — shrank by about 3,000 to an estimated 220,500 people.
The estimate of the number of people counted as unemployed in August was 14,400. The figure is a decrease of 1,300 from July and down about 3,100 from August 2011. There were about 4,900 more jobs in the metro area in August than in August 2011.
Across the larger 12-county Coastal Bend Workforce Development Area, unemployment dipped to 6.4 percent in August, down from 6.9 percent in July, according to Workforce Solutions of the Coastal Bend.
