La Palmera staples 200,000 SF in Corpus Christi
CORPUS CHRISTI – The Mt. Vernon Shopping Center — across South Staples St. from La Palmera — along with the Staples Center behind it, will be redeveloped into The Shops at La Palmera.
When renovations and reconstruction are complete, the retail center will have 200,000 sf of leasable space with an anchor and junior tenants and smaller in-line shops. There will be space for about 30 tenants, according to Fred Walters, general manager of La Palmera.
Construction is scheduled to begin by the end of 2012, with a grand reopening as early as fall 2013. New tenants could begin opening stores by spring as construction ends in phases.
Fort Worth-based Trademark Property Co. — the parent company of La Palmera — bought the shopping centers in April 2012.
Mt. Vernon Shopping Center is on the corner of McArdle and South Staples. Some tenants already have departed or announced departures.
