DENTON – Target’s $100 million, 366,000-sf facility is set to open in fall 2012 with first shipments rolling out March 2013. The first robotic food and perishables distribution center, which sits on 50 acres at 3952 Corbin Dr., is nearing completion.

Target will hire 140 employees initially, with the possibility of a total of 170 employees at maximum operation.

The facility encompasses 20 million cubic feet of space and is nine stories tall at its highest. It will include 20 banana-ripening rooms and is expected to ship 577,000 cases of bananas a week.

Target chose the City of Denton because it of its location, workforce, quality of life and the relationship formed with municipal and economic development officials. Target will receive a tax break worth $1.7 million over five years.
