South San High counting stars
SAN ANTONIO – South San Independent School District is making progress on its reconstruction project at South San High. Located at 5622 Ray Ellison Dr., construction firms are working to add about 100,000 sf to the complex and boost capacity to 2,750 students to allow for some growth.
Something unique in San Antonio — a high school planetarium — is being built on the third floor. About 150 to 200 construction workers swarm over the renovation project daily.
The project is being funded by a $58 million bond that has been allocated $54 million for South San High and $4 million to convert an old administrative building into a health careers magnet school across the street. The conversion has already been complete.
The school is scheduled to open in August 2013 in time for the new school year.
