ORANGE – Construction will begin in November on a new 32,416-sf building for nursing students at Lamar State College-Orange (LSC-O). The building — which will be located on Fourth St. — will replace the former Orange Leader newspaper office.

The $10.1 million project will be complete by fall 2013 and will include a simulation lab to include two adult rooms, a birthing room, pediatric room and a home setting environment. There will be two five-bed skills labs as well as an 80-seat lecture hall, a 60-seat computer room, two 50-seat rooms and a 60-seat classroom.

There are approximately 160 vocational nursing students, 80 registered nursing students, and roughly 300 basic nursing students each year at LSC-O. More than 500 pre-vocational students also have to be advised through the nursing department.
