La Plaza expansion satisfies McAllen appetite

McALLEN – Construction wrapping up on La Plaza Mall’s food court, adding three new stores, a playground and new restrooms. The new food court, with the 12,000-sf addition, is worth $5.5 million for tax purposes, according to Simon Property Group who owns the 1.2 million-sf mall.

A grand opening of the new food court is planned for November 2.

Other planned improvements include a 175,000-sf second floor, additions to two department stores and two parking garages, which will handle the increased traffic.
