KILLEEN – Killeen has been named one of the 75 best cities for college students by the American Institute for Economic Research in its 2012-13 College Destinations Index.

The 75 cities were categorized by population size, with Killeen being ranked 19th out of 20 in the “small cities” category, which includes those with a population between 250,000 and 1 million.

Other Texas towns and cities in the top 75 this year include Austin, Lubbock, Dallas, Houston, San Antonio and College Station.

The index measures the informal learning environment of a city based on three major areas, academic environment, quality of life and professional opportunity. Within those areas, the institute looked at data on 12 detailed criteria, including student population, degree attainment, cost of living, entrepreneurial activity and arts and leisure.
