BROWNSVILLE - The East Morrison Rd. extension has a spawned a mini commercial development boom. The extension was completed earlier in 2012 from Pablo Kisel to Paredes Line Rd.

Morrison Plaza — a planned retail development — will be located on the east side of Pablo Kisel. The first planned phase of Morrison Plaza consists of two separate buildings totaling 27,000 sf of commercial space. Phase II features two separate pads, one 19,027 sf and the other 36,582 sf.

Developer Origo Works plans to have phase one of the plaza completed by May 2013.

Another new development, a ten-suite retail center dubbed 707 Plaza, will go up just south of Morrison Rd. on the frontage road west of US 77/83. It will be 15,000 sf and will include a Starbucks, a Taco Palenque and a U-Mix Frozen Yogurt shop.

The land has already been cleared and the project should be finished by January or February 2013.

Texas Regional Bank has a bank branch coming to the southeast corner of Pablo Kisel and Morrison Rd. Construction is expected to start November 2012 and be complete by summer 2013. Construction is already underway on a First Community Bank branch adjacent to what will be Tipton Motors’ new Hyundai dealership.
