CORPUS CHRISTI – Corpus Christi Independent School District and Del Mar College officials broke ground on the 22,000-sf Harold T. Branch Academy for Career and Technical Education. The $4.3 million academy will be built at 3902 Morgan Ave. on the site of the former Adult Learning Center and former Austin Elementary.

The facility, opening for the 2013-14 school year, will offer ninth- through 12th-grade students the chance to study areas including accounting, computer science, drafting, biotechnology, aviation and law enforcement.

Students will take many classes at Del Mar College’s West Campus, which is down the street from the academy. The academy is planned to open with 100 students.
