TAYLOR, WILLIAMSON COUNTY - In an effort to change the amount of empty buildings in downtown Taylor, the city is offering money to people who want to rent or lease buildings to open a business.

Under the new incentive program, for ten months the city will pay half of the rent or the mortgage payment for a building, up to $750 per month. The offer is only for those interested in opening retail businesses in the area, including restaurants and stores.

The economic development corporation is also offering to pay for half of the work done on the facade of a building, up to $9,000, for businesses coming to downtown.

The buildings available for purchase or lease include the city’s former post office built in 1890, a 33,000-sf two-story building on the northwest corner of Second St. and Main St. and a former Southern Pacific railroad car that was previously used as a restaurant.
