First Walmart inside Houston’s I-610 set to open

HOUSTON – The Washington Heights Walmart Supercenter at 111 Yale is set to open October 26, 2012. It will be the first Supercenter to open inside the Loop.

Construction costs for the 152,000-sf store were estimated at $9.1 million, according to state filings.

The Houston City Council granted $6 million in tax incentives for the developer of the project, to be used for surrounding infrastructure.

Kroger is set to open a nearby location on the same day, as reported October 2012.
