GALVESTON – Del Papa Distributing Co. has donated 22,000 sf of island office and storage space at 6918 Broadway to the Lighthouse Charity Team, which provides cooking equipment and volunteer labor to prepare meals during natural disasters and for community causes.

Known to islanders as the “annex,” the building is not part of the warehouses and offices at 6702 Broadway that Del Papa put up for sale in April 2012. The asking price for those offices, multiple loading docks, air-conditioned warehouses and some undeveloped adjoining land is $5.6 million.

The building includes a 75-person meeting room, loading docks, storage facilities, and easy access to I-45. Del Papa is providing the space free of charge.

Del Papa moved into a new 126,000-sf Texas City facility earlier in 2012, after a 100 years on the island.
