SAN ANTONIO – Homebuilders and developers are seeing increased demand among potential homebuyers, according to the latest figures from the San Antonio office of Metrostudy.

Over the 12 months ended September 30, 2012, builders broke ground on 7,792 single-family homes in the greater San Antonio area — a 14 percent jump from the 6,838 housing starts recorded over the same period in 2011.

Annual closings are also on the rise with 7,306 home purchases during the 12 months ended Sept. 30 2012 — a 5 percent increase from the 6,958 closings recorded over the same period in 2011.

Jeff Czar, president of Armadillo Homes, points out that over the past several years, prices for his firm’s homes have gone from an average of between $130,000 and $140,000 to an average price now of $191,000.

Looking at the 100 most active subdivisions in the San Antonio area, there is presently a 15.4-month supply.
