AUSTIN - The Austin area added 23,800 jobs between September 2011 and September 2012, according to an analysis of the latest data for all 102 markets with more than 500,000 residents.

The 3.8 percent gain ranks the area No. 18 in the nation, On Numbers reports. In September 2011, the area had 628,800 private-sector jobs, and in September 2012, the total was up to 652,600, according to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data.

The analysis also shows that Austin added the largest percentage of private-sector jobs from September 2007 to September 2012.

The On Numbers report ranked Austin No. 1 in the United States with a 7.6 percent gain in private sector employment — an increase from 606,600 jobs in September 2007 to 652,600 jobs in September 2012.
