CARTHAGE, PANOLA COUNTY - Panola College has started construction on a new 62-bed residence hall off of Lennox St. The residence hall will replace the oldest residence hall on campus built in 1956, and will raise on-campus living capacity to nearly 250.
Construction costs are estimated at $1.5 million for the 11,000-sf building and adjacent parking lot, according to state filings. Construction is set to be complete by June 2013.
The college reported a 2.9 percent growth of overall students since last year - the highest increase in enrollment among junior colleges in the state. Total enrollment for the fall semester is 2,584 students.
