SAN ANGELO – The local economy is up, thanks in part to the oil industry, the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce reported in its quarterly update.

San Angelo has 1,500 more people in the workforce than it had in 2011, sales tax has been up the past 26 months.

Hotel occupancy is up 26 percent, and hotel occupancy is just under 80 percent, according to Pamela Miller with the Convention and Visitor Bureau. Occupancy has been up more than 20 months in a row.

Between 60 and 70 guests were connected with the oil and gas business at one hotel.
