FORT BLISS - Beaumont Army Medical Center has opened a new East Bliss Health and Dental Clinic at 21227 Torch St. with a cost of about $17 million.

The 40,000-sf clinic is one of the last major medical projects connected with the Base Realignment and Closure Process, which brought the 1st Armored Division to Fort Bliss.

It will serve more than 7,200 soldiers belonging to the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 212th Fires Brigade and 15th Sustainment Brigade, all with the 1st Armored Division.

The clinic will handle 264 patients per day and will be staffed by more than 50 military and civilian workers. The dental clinic will include 14 chairs.

The building was built to meet LEED Silver standards and took about a year to construct and an additional six months to equip.

A new Beaumont replacement hospital, at an estimated cost of $966 million, is also being built on East Bliss and is scheduled to open in 2017.
