Coastal Bend unemployment rates: Oct. 2012
COASTAL BEND – Corpus Christi metro area unemployment dropped slightly to 5.8 percent in October, Texas Workforce Commission figures show. The rate is down from 5.9 percent in September and is the area’s lowest level since December 2008.
Employers added 500 nonfarm jobs in Aransas, Nueces and San Patricio counties from September to October. Two sectors — mining, logging and construction as well as education and health services — both added an estimated 200 positions from month-to-month.
Losses overtook gains for a net loss of 100 nonfarm jobs. The trade, transportation and utilities sector posted the largest month-over-month loss of 300 jobs.
Across the 12-county Coastal Bend Workforce Development Area, the unemployment rate ticked downward one-tenth of a percentage point to 5.6 percent, according to Workforce Solutions of the Coastal Bend.
