WICHITA FALLS - Average per capita income for Wichita Falls residents rose 4.9 percent between 2010 and 2011, according to the U.S. Commerce Department. That's .5 percent more than the national average increase and .01 below the Texas figure.

In 2011 the per capita income per Wichitan — the income per person averaged across the city's population — was $36,627. That compares with an income of $26,244 in 2001.

The Wichita Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area fell below the national average of $41,560 and the Texas average of $40,147.

Per capita income in Wichita County was slightly lower than that of Wichita Falls MSA, with the average income in the county being $35,477 in 2011 for a 4.4 percent increase over 2010. That compares to an annual income of $26,153 in 2001.

Among Texas cities, Wichita Falls falls about in the middle of the pack. Midland County led Texas with an average income of $65,173.
